This book was a rough one to listen to for me. Its progression was way too slow. For a 12 hour book, it really didn't grab my attention until I was about 9 ½ hours into it. However, those last few hours were packed with twist after twist, after twist. I thought I'd had it all figured out but in reality, I barely had a clue. I had started to check out a few chapters in when the narration switched to the view of a super religious cat. The cat part I was ok with but it had seemed to be over anthropomorphized and that's where it lost me.

If you struggle with some of the harder topics, read cautiously. This book is full of some dark stuff. Mental health (DID), child torture, medically based torture, off page child death, suicide and some others.

Christopher Ragland did a wonderful job on the voice acting. Despite the majority of this book being too slow, Catriona's writing and flow is refined and not too wordy.

Would I listen to novel again? Probably not. Would I recommend it? Yes and no, depending on what type of reader is involved.
